Environmental Conservation Organization

We are excited to announce the establishment of the new and greater Environmental Conservation Organization founded by Teens for Green and SEA.

We are honored to embark on this new chapter of environmental protection and activism and lay down the stones for a broader environmental organization at Memorial High School that will continue the legacy of caring for our planet, for years to come.

Mission

We are a student-led organization dedicated to spreading environmental awareness and sustainability through volunteering, education, and community-based projects.

Our activities & events include tree planting, cooking classes, recycling, picnics, cleanups, gardening, documentary nights, blogging, farm tours, and so much more!

Merry Ding

Hi! It’s Merry, Co-Founder and Co-Prez, and welcome to ECO! I am beyond excited to share this new organization with y’all! Through ECO, you can gain easy access to Houston’s environmental resources and community projects, while discovering eye-opening insights on the impact that the environment has on all aspects of life. The understanding that protecting the environment is synonymous with protecting ourselves and our future generations is an important one. So, I hope that through ECO, we can create more awareness that environmental justice is just as much of a social issue as it is an “eco” one.

Chris Salha

Hi, my name is Christopher Salha, I’m currently a senior at MHS and the Co-Founder and President of ECO! Since I was a child I have always had a passion for gardening and being out in nature. From plastic pollution to climate change to deforestation, many ecosystems around the world have been severely altered in the last century. Although the fight for environmental justice seems hopeless and bleak, it is always important to look at the positive side of things and learn about what each of us as individuals can do to live more sustainably and better protect our environment.

Howdy! My name is Cathy, and I’m currently a senior at MHS! As the Co-Vice President of ECO this year, I’m honored to be one of the leaders of Memorial’s journey toward a benevolent and eternal impact on our environment. For the future of our beloved city, Houston, I can’t wait to work with the rest of ECO to implement positive, rewarding, and valuable changes throughout our community!

Hey guys! My name is Faye, and as the Co-vice president of Eco i'm so excited to participate in another year of environmental awareness and community projects. I believe that change can start with us as high school students, through local volunteering and changing little things in our daily lives. I hope that through this new joint club Eco, we can continue pursuing our passions for the environment and spreading positive impacts throughout the Houston community. Join Eco to gain hands-on experience on protecting our ecosystem for the future generations!

Crawford Freedman

Hi, my name is Crawford Freedman and I'm the Community Outreach Manager for ECO! I'm a junior at MHS. This organization has so much potential and I'm glad and excited to be a part of it. Many great transcendental thinkers and conservationists like Theodore Roosevelt, inspire me and I'd hope to follow in their footsteps. From early morning jogs through the Arboretum, to meditating under any shady oak tree, nature has been an important part of my life and I hope it will continue to be as I get older and progress through life. hey y’all! my name is erin sugg and i’m currently a junior here at mhs. the environment and just nature in general has always had a major impact on my life since my childhood, so i’m so excited to be helping ECO this year as social media manager. i’ll mainly be promoting environmental awareness through instagram and taking pictures/videos during our events, so hope to see y’all there!

Ariana Mehdizadeh

Hi there! My name is Ariana Mehdizadeh and I am a future environmental studies major, long time nature lover, and one of the volunteer coordinators for MHS ECO. From my 8th birthday party at the arboretum, to helping my grandma in her vegetable garden, mother nature has gifted me with some of my fondest memories and I hope, with the help of ECO, to be able to give back to her. I am excited to hit the ground running with this new, supersized club and can’t wait to see what impact we can make on the beautiful planet we live on.

Hey!! My name is Rawan Muhsin. I'm currently a senior at MHS. I’ve always been passionate about raising awareness towards the wellbeing of our home. I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible and dedicated people of ECO this year! I’m looking forward to influencing others in hopes of making the world a better place not only for us but for all the other organisms we share this planet with.

My name is Ella Niemann, and I am one of the event coordinators for ECO. Ever since middle school, I’ve had a growing love for nature and its beauty. As I have become more ecologically aware, I’ve learned about a variety of things I can contribute to the Earth through clubs and personal research. I have also decided to pursue my passion to make the world more environmentally friendly, through a career in environmental engineering.

Hey guys! My name is brian and i'm so excited to be the historian of ECO this year. In previous years I've loved participating in our environmental projects and raising awareness throughout our school and community, and documenting them to our online blog. SEA and Teens for Greens both approach environmental conservation in different ways, with both including opportunities to give back to our ecosystem. I am so excited and can’t wait to see what we can achieve together as we join to form ECO. Let's have a great year!

Hi!! I’m Diana Puerta, a current senior at MHS. I’ll be serving as the Secretary of ECO this year. I’m so excited to serve as a leader and help spread much-needed environmental awareness. Our environment has done so much for us, and it is our job as individuals to take care of and impact it in positive ways. I can’t wait to see the great things that ECO will accomplish.
